  1. What is Microsoft Office Pro Plus?

CIT is happy to announce that Microsoft Office ProPlus is now available for staff of CIT at no cost to you! Office ProPlus includes Office for the iPad and the Microsoft Office Suite for your personally-owned devices.

  2. Can I install Office Pro Plus Education on CIT devices?

Office Pro Plus should NOT be installed on CIT-owned PCs or Macs. CIT has a separate license and support arrangements in place to cover these devices. Therefore, CIT staff wishing to request a copy of Microsoft Office onto CIT -managed PCs and Macs should contact their local IT technician or email servicedesk@cit.ie

Notwithstanding the above, CIT has been advised that staff in possession of other CIT-owned devices such as phones and tablets can avail of Office 365 Education by downloading the apps from the relevant App Store.

  3. Can I install Office if there is already a version running on my personal PC or Mac?

If you already have what Microsoft call an "installer edition" of Office on your computer, you might not be able to install Office 365. The only workaround currently suggested by Microsoft is to uninstall the existing Office software from your computer and to try the Office 365 installation again. Please ensure you have a backup of your data and have an original copy of your existing Microsoft product before attempting to uninstall it.

  4. I can't install Office 2016 on to my personal Mac?

Office 2016 for Mac will only install onto Macs running OS 10.10 or higher. Devices running older versions will only be allowed download Office 2011 for Mac and there is currently an incompatibility between the IT systems in place in CIT and Microsoft to facilitate this. Therefore, the recommended workaround is to upgrade your Mac to OS 10.10 or higher through the App Store.

  5. What is included with MS Office ProPlus subscription licence?

    • Office 365 ProPlus for PC
    • Office 365 ProPlus for Mac
    • Office Mobile for iPhone
    • Office Mobile for Android

  6. Who can access this service?

Any CIT Staff member with an @cit.ie email account that has an “active” status CIT HR system.

Due to Microsoft licensing rules we are not permitted to offer these benefits to retired staff.

  7. What happens if I leave CIT?

Your MS Office subscription is valid while you are employed by CIT. You may enroll into other consumer or commercial offers available. Before leaving, you should make sure to transfer all your personal files from your CIT OneDrive to a personal OneDrive or another storage device.

At expiration, the Office applications enter a reduced-functionality mode, which means documents can be viewed but it isn't possible to edit or create new documents. In addition, online services associated with the @cit.ie email address, for example Office Online and OneDrive, will no longer work.

  8. How many machines/devices can I run this subscription on?

Each subscription licence allows you to run Office on up to five machines being Mac or PC. You can also run Office Mobile for Android or Office Mobile for iPhone on up to 5 mobile devices.

  9. When I log in, I get a message "You don't have a license to use Office 365 with the user ID assigned to you by your work or school"

You may have logged into Office 365 through the sign-in option at the top-right of the screen without going through the registration process.
Go to http://office.com/GetOffice365 and click on "Get Started". Follow the on-screen instructions to log back into Office 365.

  10. I tried to use Office Online but got a message "Sorry, we couldn't create your new document"

This can be resolved by selecting "OneDrive" from the Office 365 home page. This will assign on-line storage to your account where you can save your on-line documents.

  11. What level of support can I expect with Office 365 Education?
